Norma McCorvey and Gloria Allred at Supreme Court on April 26th, 1989

Norma McCorvey and her attorney, Gloria Allred, attended, on April 26, 1989, as abortion rights opponents, backed by the Bush Administration, urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services.

Norma McCorvey, better known by the legal pseudonym "Jane Roe", was the plaintiff in the landmark American legal case Roe v. Wade in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1973 that individual state laws banning abortion were unconstitutional.

Gloria Rachel Allred is a women's rights attorney known for taking high-profile and often controversial cases, particularly those involving the protection of women's rights.

In Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, the Court upheld several provisions of a Missouri law that regulated the performance of abortions. The Court refused to invalidate the law’s preamble stating that life begins at conception.
